American Citizen Services at Consulate General Chennai is open Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except for Indian and American holidays, to provide emergency and non-emergency assistance to U.S. citizens. As of February 16th , 2010 appointments will be offered for passport services, records of birth abroad, and notary services. Please follow the link below to make an appointment. Our busiest days are Mondays, and the day following a holiday. To receive the fastest service, we recommend that you avoid these peak periods.

Please enter the U.S. Consulate at the main gate on Cathedral Road. You must present your valid passport or other form of government-issued photo identification to gain access to American Citizen Services.
Payment for services may be made in cash in either U.S. dollars or Indian rupees or by credit/debit card or by rupee demand draft made payable to the U.S. Consulate, Chennai. The following credit/debit cards are accepted: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Novus/Discover, Diners, and "logoed" debit (purchasing) cards displaying the Visa or MasterCard logo.
The Consulate does not accept payment by personal check or traveler's check.
American Citizen Services cannot provide direct assistance to non-U.S. citizens, such as “green card” holders, nor can we assist in matters concerning Indian visas.
American Citizen Services is unable to answer visa questions. If you require information about immigrant visas, including how to apply to replace an alien registration card, or green card, or about non-immigrant visas, please refer to the Visa Services section on this webpage.

**Revision of the Schedule of Fees for Consular Services
Effective Friday, March 06, 2009 the United States consular
sections in India will adjust the consular exchange rate from Rs 52 to the dollar to Rs 55 to the dollar, thereby increasing all rupee denominated costs of applying for passports at the US Embassy and Consulates General.
