We understand that the rules of U.S. citizenship can be complex.  U.S. Consulate Chennai is here to assist you with questions regarding claims to U.S. citizenship and citizenship renunciation.

The American Citizen Services office at Consulate General Chennai is open Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except for Indian and American holidays, to provide emergency and non-emergency assistance to U.S. citizens.  All services are on a walk-in basis – no appointment is required.  Our busiest days are Mondays, and the day following a holiday.  To receive the fastest service, we recommend that you avoid these peak periods. 

Register with the Consulate

  • We urge all U.S. citizens to register online with the U.S. Consulate.  This will enable ACS to contact you by e-mail whenever we have security or other information to share, or should there ever be an emergency or other crisis.  Click here to register.
